Public Outreach
Public Involvement Meetings
DDOT encourages you to participate in the design process and welcomes you to attend one of our public meetings. You can provide comments and feedback via a meeting comment card, the project website, email, or mail.
Steering Committee
The role of the Steering Committee is to represent a cross section of key stakeholders within the U Street, NW corridor and nearby communities, and to communicate ideas, issues and concerns with the District Department of Transportation and the project team throughout the design phase of the TMP development to develop the best possible construction design for the Corridor.
The goal of the Steering Committee will be to anticipate, communicate, and resolve issues related to project safety, sequence of improvements, and access during construction. The Steering Committee meets periodically throughout the design process to review public outreach information and provide general feedback.
Business Owner Survey
During the design phase, the project team will go door-to-door to neighborhood businesses to gather information that will be helpful in minimizing disruptions during construction. This will also allow business operators an additional opportunity to voice any concerns about construction of the project.
Supplemental Outreach
Project news will continue to be distributed through the end of construction. Check the website periodically for project/construction updates. The following resources will also be incorporated to keep the public informed on the latest project activities:
- Email ‘blasts’ to neighborhood list serves
- Newsletters and direct mailers
- Newspapers, radio, and television announcements
- Message displays of construction activities and detours throughout project corridor
